You have to put in the effort. It is not meant for starting at zero. It is meant to to me people to practice with.

I wanted to know something so I asked the hellotalk team for the answer, so what they did is stopped my account till I give them my official ID, what kind of apps this is to ask for my ID, and then they didnt unblock me, so I had to delete the app! Very disrespectful Team!

Was using the app this morning and it was working perfectly fine. Then it stopped working and wouldnt connect after the "update" please fix this. It wont connect to the app because of "network settings" but I can connect to anything and everything else. Love the app and want to continue using it

Its a free service and the amount of what they give is excellent. Of course theres a paid version that offers more, nothing in life is free.

It worked really well BEFORE I updated the app yesterday. Now, it is super slow and only works when Im connected to wifi. When Im not on wifi, it keeps staying "network error" then "disconnected". Can you please fix This!? I give two stars because prior to the update, it worked really well and I love this app! Thanks!

Ive had this app a little over a year. Ive met some great friends and even met some in person for face to face exchange. That being said, the past month or so I have not been able to use the app outside of wifi. Ive tested other apps and it seems to be consolidated to HelloTalk. Two stars until they can fix connection issues

Their team worked around the clock to resolve a technical glitch of mine, which will be patched in the next update. Shows me that theyre really committed to making the app as great as possible. Cant overstate the importance of that, compared to other players in the language app game (looking at you, Memrise...)

This app is so helpful for learning other languages! I use this app to learn Korean and not only am I learning but I am making lots of friends as well! I would rate 10 stars but I cant haha.

I bought 2 years worth of premium service and this is what I get. An app that is half functional and a team that doesnt care. I have been using this app for one year now. As a premium user who pays for the service, I should have some support with all the bugs I have. I cannot use the translator , I cannot see my followers or people Im following(the screen freezes), I cannot see comments from posts or things that I post(it is a blank screen). These are bad bugs that Ive been dealing with for months and months and Ive got no support from the HelloTalk team. They wont even reply. At first, they were helping me try to fix it. I sent EVERYTHING. Diagnostic logs, screen captures , video captures , full detail reports on when and how things occurred , and they couldnt figure it out. They said wait until the next update. Theres been at least 12 updates since then and now they wont even respond to me. They are ignoring my support chats. Ive sent multiple. But they will still send me promotional messages... I bought 2 years worth of premium service and this is what I get. An app that is half functional and a team that doesnt care.

I love the app but I cant use it right now or ever since the new update and its making me upset because all of my other apps work great an well with my data and wifi and all other connections but this specific app keeps having "network connectivity issues" please fix it

Great customer service and support! An absolute must try for yourself! Great learning platform helps connect people to the natives of language they wish to learn. Ease of access with simple tools. Very easy to use.

This app has seen a mass exodus of its users after the developers, blinded by greed, suddenly decided to add pay-walls on what used to be freely available features. Dont reward that kind of money-grabbing behaviour. Avoid this app.

Ive tried about 5 or 6 different websites/apps/programs and this is the one Ive found the most useful. I highly recommend it!

Absolutely love meeting new friends who are helping me learn and practice Japanese! So many useful features are available, and the membership (though the app is entirely useful without it) is not extremely expensive. However, it could be better. The app always wants to make your current status online before it loads any of your messages, and if your signal is anything less than perfect, this may take a while if at all. It also crashes a lot. A LOT. A last complaint: I have selected the option that SHOULD make it so that only native speakers of Japanese can find me, yet I get messages from all over the globe. While I enjoy the experience, I am using the app to practice Japanese, not chat with French boys.

Ive downloaded a lot of apps that "give the opportunity to talk to foreigners" but I end up never using them or understanding how to use them. But HelloTalk is very easy to use and Ive ACTUALLY got to talk to native Japanese speakers. The way it works it you send out status updates similar to twitter in the language you are learning, and natives will correct it. You also do the same for them. You can exchange messages and even send out pictures and voice recordings. Also if both you and the person you are talking to give consent you can exchange phone calls to practice. Ive been using this app less than a week and I have exchanged phone calls and message multiple people daily. In this app people are more than willing to help and are very excited to learn. Another important point is that this app is VERY strict on putting yourself out there to date. This is NOT a dating app, its a friendly educational app. One thing is this app is free, there is a subscription to a premium service, but you can learn more than enough without it. The premium service is useful if you want to learn more than one language and you need more than twenty translations a day. Honestly the challenge of having to read and LISTEN (you can listen to messages being read) to the messages is beneficial for learning. The best way to learn a language is immersion I assure you. Anyway the app is great. Not a waste of time and nothing to lose. Plus you get to make great friends!

I have found some people to actually have conversations with and learn by actual conversations. There are still creeps who just want a hook up, so use discretion. But overall its a great app and easy to use.
