It’s bad that voice room not available in Taiwan

Great app for learning but holy cow are they greedy. Every little thing is locked behind a paywall. I paid for the VIP and I still am not able to access lots of parts of the app without paying. Great to meet new people though.

I just created an account and as soon as I did it said something along the lines of suspicious activity please verify phone number so I did I put my phone number in and it said not valid number so I checked the region and I couldn’t find Chicago/Illinois that’s where I stay but I’m Korean so it expects me to have a Korean number but the phone was bought in United States Chicago.

I can’t make a new account I deleted my old account because my age was wrong then when I pressed the three dots, my account, sign in with email, then sign up I would put a new email address and password and press the arrow across from Emall it sends a verification code to my email I get it put it in the spot that says Enter Verification code then I press get started then it says You can’t register new account on the 3rd step it says log in to your original account and delete it but the thing is I deleted it before wanting to create the account I wish to create I’m genuinely confused HelloTalk please help me to the best of Y’all’s ability

My edit got erased because I used a term to describe the popular concept of steadily worsening tech service over time (en****ification). This app used to have minimal ads but now every time you open it, if you’re not a paying member, you’ll be greeted by predatory ads like “Amazon just sent you $1000!” and ads that only require a small movement of your phone to take you out of the HelloTalk app and into their own app on the App Store. My original review said nice things about the app because it really was great at one point and still does many things well. But customer service is horrible with responses consisting of fragmented sentences and incomplete thoughts and won’t help you regardless of if you’re a paying member or not, so I let my VIP expire.

This app is beyond racist. Someone told me they were “gonna call the cops on me and give me the George Floyd,” but when I clapped back, I got suspended for 7 days while they faced no consequences. Meanwhile, people are openly saying the N-word, and others are bypassing hate symbols like swastikas with no issue. The moderation team clearly doesn’t care about Black users’ safety, but they’ll ban you in a heartbeat for defending yourself. If you’re Black, especially, avoid this app it’s not worth the stress. Hellotalk do better.

I made my account, uploaded a picture, wrote a small profile about me, went to have dinner and when I came back I was banned, luckily I didn’t pay for VIP membership as I intended to. Customer service is the worst I have ever experienced, they asked for screenshots of the message I got when trying to login and just said to me exactly what the display message said after 3 days! I seriously want to learn Japanese, have other apps, just wanted to practice with actual speaker. Wow, worst experience I’ve had.

Let’s say I want to rewrite or edit something there is no button to do so. So if I wanted to rewrite something on a post or a comment, I have to delete the comment and start over. Other than that I like the app

I wanted to use this app to communicate with people in Italy because I was traveling there. I got NO-ONE to write me back. This app does not live up to it's hype. AND it is always trying to sell services. A huge disappointment. Also. I have not used the service for 2.5 years and I just got a debit from my account. Please cancel any and all services immediately.

This application is becoming more popular , but unfortunately the developers are not thinking about making a Mac application .They should make app for Mac OS

This completely changed the way i thought about learning languages. I can understand german much better than i could have before!

I love this app so much! I’ve met such amazing people on here! But! I do want an update for lives. I wanna do live streams with other people with face cam on! I think that would be really fun! Please consider this or add it ^^ thanks!

I can’t restore chat on this app… I see a backup option,but no restore option

It’s a nice app, but I keep running into network errors and I have unlimited data as well as a stable WiFi connection! So I’d like to say it’s not my device!

Way too many men trying to flirt with women. They talk you a bit and then you never hear back if you’re not flirting back.

This is awful. I don’t see how you’re supposed to learn other languages when you can’t even translate messages from other people without buying a subscription which costs like- I don’t know, $20 a month? That’s insane. I just think it’s crazy that they charge you for something that is literally the point of the entire app. To learn something. But no, you can’t even learn anything when they’re literally making you pay for it, I feel like this should be a free app, but apparently not. If you can’t buy the subscription then there’s no point in owning this app and I don’t think anyone wants to really pay for that, so it’s really awful.

They have everyone spying on each other save reporting. Even if you pay $$ hundreds for your account they will easily block you based on anyone reporting you. They don't contact you or verify with you!

The concept of the app is great don’t get me wrong, but so much of the community is so weird 😭people try to treat this as a dating app and so many people have made me uncomfortable

This chinese made app will use beautiful girls and AI generated contents to lure you into a place full of toxic users. It’s filled with abnormal people and it’s definitely not a good place to learn language.

If you’re Jewish, or any religion that is not Islam, this app isn’t for you. If you’re LGBTQ this isn’t for you. I have been using this app on and off for around five years, it was a great app at first, but since the voice rooms became a new feature, there’s been a lot of drama and bullying. Be careful please.

The app had a cool and unique concept, but in my experience, there were some people who were a little creepy and it led me to delete the app. There was one guy who constantly spam called me and swore at me after confessing his love and me rejecting him. So, if you believe this app would benefit you in learning another language, just be careful with who you’re talking to and if they seem a little creepy, just stay cautious!!!

Amazing app, I started off practicing Japanese because I moved to Japan and found out someone who didn’t live too far and she agreed to teach me the culture in Japan and show me around. Next thing you know we ended up being best friends and here we are married.

Years ago this app was really good but they turned it into tinder. Posting actual language questions will no longer get you any responses unless you pay money for boosts.

I liked the idea, but like many others say, it’s a social media app that had way too much cost associated with it. I purchased one level of upgrade only to be told there is an equally priced second level of upgrade. It’s kind of ridiculous.

This creepy Chinese app won’t let me put a Taiwan flag emoji in my bio. Who knows what data it’s gathering on its users.

I had the app installed for merely a good nine hours before deciding to delete it. Within that short period, I noticed that my profile had garnered over 600 views, and messages began flooding in at an overwhelming rate. To manage the influx, I added "MRS" before my name, which appeared to slow down both the views and the number of incoming messages “somewhat.” I even got a voice clip… No, thank you! However, the experience left me feeling quite uncomfortable. I genuinely wanted to enjoy this app, especially since it had been recommended by my Spanish instructor, but ultimately, it did not resonate with me. I urge other women to tread carefully if they decide to explore this platform!

The app was okay at first but since my account kept getting deleted from my phone. I couldn’t make anymore accounts on the app.

I keep going back to this app and the $12.99 monthly isn’t bad considering how many ppl are on there and how easy it is to spark conversations. Helps break the intimidation of actually speaking another language.

It’s really a shame I literally just started using the app an hour ago, and someone reported me for impersonating MYSELF. I’m hoping support will unlock my account soon. Otherwise I will be requesting a refund on the subscription. If they unlock me I will change my review

If you’re a pretty girl DO NOT PUT YOUR PIC AS YOUR PFP. A bunch of catfishing happens on there. Scammers. And men just hounding you to reply back to them. I’m going to change my pfp to a man at this point.

Now everything is blocked and its more difficult to connect with people. The app sold out and it was much better in 2018. VIP membership is now very expensive

I’m glad meeting new friends

I already tried talking to them on the app but they just said that you have the unofficial version which doesn't make sense because this I the only version I see and still can't type. All it says when I try to type is "you temporarily can't text" or something like that. I tried ther tips like deleting the app and re downloading it but it still doesn't work so idk what's going on.

The app itself is highly polished and very good. I had been using for an extended period of time to learn mandarin. However one evening my account was banned seemingly out of the blue for violating TOS or someone reporting my account. When i reached out to contact HelloTalk support i got no response and am really disappointed.
